This is what’s left of a church destroyed by ISIS in northern Iraq. It is hard to stand in a place like this and find something to be thankful for. But it's there, if you look closely enough.
ISIS destroyed this church building, but but their real aim was to destroy the people who worshiped here—to wipe out their faith. Their identity. Their very existence. And they failed.
We have met so many who were persecuted by ISIS. Christians, Yazidis, Muslims. And we are always struck by the resilience of their faith. Their suffering has inspired them to go deeper into their faith, deeper into their culture. That's why hate cannot win. That's why ISIS will fail. Because love and faith are greater than hate.
That's what we give thanks for.
